How and when did King of Pops come to be?

We started back in 2010 after a bit of a life curveball. Our founder, Steve, got laid off from his job and decided to chase a dream instead of another desk. A trip to Central America sparked the idea—and the popsicle magic began on an Atlanta street corner with a single cart.

How did you land on the name King of Pops?

We had a long list of name ideas—some cool, some a little out there. Names like Fría, Frozen Man, and El Pobre Diablo were on the table. We even sent a vote to our friends and family, and Fría actually won by a lot! But deep down, King of Pops was always our favorite. It didn’t win the vote, but we went with it anyway—and we’re glad we did. It’s playful, bold, and it just fits the vibe. Honestly, it’s probably one of the best decisions we made. Sometimes you just gotta trust your gut.

We love your goal to create Unexpected Moments of Happiness! Can you tell us about this?

Thank you! That’s the heart of everything we do. We landed on that as our purpose almost a decade ago. Whether it’s handing someone a pop at just the right moment or showing up to a wedding, a festival, or an office party with a cart full of frozen joy—or hosting a yoga event where you might not expect it.

What makes your popsicles different from all the other?

We care a heck of a lot. We make our pops with real fruit, honest-to-goodness ingredients, and a lot of love. There is nothing tricky about it, but to do it day in day out for years is a challenge for sure.

Can you tell us about your farm, King of Crops?

King of Crops is a passion project where we grow primarily muscadines, blueberries and blackberries. We keep testing new things and are hoping to increase production out there. It is a 72 acre property in Winston GA, and it is certainly a work in progress … but we love it.

What is your #1 favorite King of Pops flavor?

Best seller is Chocolate Sea Salt, but my favorites right now are Key Lime Pie or if it’s super hot out Blackberry Ginger Lemonade.

What does it mean to you to be a part of the local food community here in Atlanta?

It means everything. Atlanta is our home—it’s where we started, grew, and found our people. I’m not sure we would have succeeded anywhere else. We had such an amazing amount of support and now feel like it’s our duty as a more established / older brand to continue to lean in and help others, even though we have plenty to figure out ourselves.
